He was born in London, the son of the barrister Christopher Dering and his wife Elizabeth Spackman, and godson of Heneage Finch, 1st Earl of Nottingham, He went to St Albans Grammar was admitted to the Inner Temple in , and also studied at Clare College, Cambridge, where he matriculated in , but left in without a degree. Francis Wanley, Doctor of Divinity (b Marske 25 April ; d Ripon 9 July ) was an eminent Anglican priest in the second half of the 18th century. Wanley was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge.
